ECIRPD’s Role in the Liberty-Perry All-Inclusive Playground
Creating spaces where all children can play and feel included is an important part of building strong, connected communities. Liberty-Perry Schools are working toward that goal by developing an all-inclusive playground designed to serve children of all abilities.
The East Central Indiana Regional Planning District (ECIRPD) has played a supporting role in advancing this project. Through coordination and partnership-building, ECIRPD assisted Liberty-Perry in identifying funding opportunities and connecting with organizations that could help bring the project to life. These efforts helped strengthen collaboration and build momentum around the project.
One key outcome of this work was securing $60,000 in funding from the Delaware County Redevelopment Commission. Additional support has come from partners such as the Delaware County Community Foundation and Muncie Altrusa, reflecting a broader community commitment to the project. Construction is currently anticipated to begin in August.
The total project cost is $193,244, which includes the playground equipment, fencing, and a communication board to enhance accessibility and ensure the space is welcoming for all users. Funding to date includes contributions from Liberty-Perry Schools ($50,000), Medicaid ($50,000), the Redevelopment Commission ($60,000), and additional community partners.
To help close the remaining funding gap, Liberty-Perry launched a crowdfunding campaign through Patronicity. The campaign has exceeded its $35,000 goal, raising $35,383. With the goal met, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) will match the funds raised, effectively doubling contributions and maximizing the impact of community support.
Once completed, the playground will provide an inclusive space where children of all abilities can play and interact. The project reflects a collaborative effort across multiple organizations and highlights how coordinated support can help bring meaningful community initiatives to completion.
